I felt like I don't know anything about music at all. In order to make my own music, I thought having basic music knowledge will help my project.
I researched about the song structure (pop song) and learned that the overall structure has several elements.
The basic structure of a song is
Intro > Verse 1 > Chorus > Verse 2 > Chorus > Bridge > (Verse 3) > Chorus > Outro
It helps to know this because now I construct the songs instead of making random pieces of music clips.
It's very important to understand this. However, since you aren't writing music with lyrics, you don't need to strictly adhere to this structure. It might be a good idea to work on a song using these rules in order to make a song based on a template—it's a good discipline to learn. Just remember that not all songs need a concrete beginning, middle and ending. A classic example would be David Bowie's classic album Low. Low is one of my favorite albums, and each song is like a fleeting thought that drifts in and out in a very subtle way. I can't recommend it enough!
